The Chief Executive of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly, Iddrisu Musah Superior has condemned the act of using minors as drivers of commercial tricycles commonly known as Yellow-Yellow or Mahama combo and said the Assembly is set to come out with regulations to monitor operations of these commercial tricycle riders to avoid the use of minors as drivers in the commercial line.
Motor bikes and tricycles are the most common and easiest means of transport in the three regions of the north but the recent engagement of minors in this business in the Tamale Metropolis is on the rise due to the cheap nature of their services. The Mayor hinted that, the TMA is coming out with regulations to monitor the operations of the Yellow-Yellow business in the Metropolis and affirmed that his position as Mayor is a calling hence he would continue with his works despite the challenges to make Tamale a great and better home for all.
Addressing the issue of streetism, Mr. Superior hinted in an interview with ATV’s Amata Salpawuni Muniru that a new Taskforce called ‘Behisung Taskforce’ has been formed to address child streetism and other related issues in the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly.
Streetism has recently dominated the Tamale Metropolis with children between the ages of 5 to 10 roaming on the principal streets of Tamale at odd hours of the night. This according to the Mayor is unacceptable hence the need to come out with a solution to curb this menace.
Mr. Musah also revealed that, the Metropolitan Assembly is currently working with some NGOs to engage the youth in skills training. He however entreated all parents to be responsible to their wards to help control this menace.
