In some religious settings, kisses are used to symbolize peace whilst kissing another person’s lips has become a common expression of affection or warm greeting in many cultures worldwide.
Although frequent kissing has been identified as a stress reliever, Evans Osei Appiah, a nurse with the Amasaman Hospital has admonished people to be weary of who they kiss in order to prevent the transmission and infection of sexually transmitted diseases.
Speaking on ATV’s flagship show Anopa Bosuo with Kukua Snead-Michaels, Evans said some sexually transmitted diseases such as hepatitis B and Herpes can be transmitted from one person to the other if one is infected and has open sores in his or her mouth. He advised the public to know the health status of their partners before engaging in the act of kissing.
