The Provost and President of the Academic City College, Dr Fred Mcbagonluri has said that, in a resource deprived area like Africa, access to Social Media is crucial in the learning space of students. He said this in response to whether Social Media is being used to its full potential by Ghanaian students and not abusing it as is being generally asserted.
Speaking in an interview with ATV’s Kukua Nyimpaye Michaels, the President who is a Ghanaian Engineer, inventor and author said, Social Media has skillsets that can be used effectively by students if properly guided.
He said “Sometimes I go onto online media like You Tube and I look at the best professional practices of teachers that have done what I’m doing many times over because they are more experienced. I encourage my students to go on You Tube and watch videos on certain courses and learn. I think they are using it much more positively”.
Dr Mcbagonluri prior to becoming the Provost and President of Academic City, was the founding Dean at the Faculty of Engineering at Ashesi University College. He was also the founding Executive Director of the Ghana Climate Innovation Centre, a new cleantech incubator backed by the World Bank. Prior to his role at Ashesi University College, Prof. Mcbagonluri lived and worked in the United States.
